In 1915, the grandest terminal station in Europe was completed in Leipzig's heart, operated by two State Railroads before merging into the German Reichsbahn. Spanning 298 m (326 yd), it boasted 26 tracks. Mrklin, captivated, recreated it in 1919-1920 as O Gauge and I Gauge tinplate masterpieces, featured until 1930. Unlabeled as 'Leipzig', its design hinted at its origin. A 1:45 replica would measure 6.70 m (22'). Size was gauge-dependent, matching tracks and trains. The 'Leipzig' model, convincing and captivating, was hand-assembled from premium materials. In 1929, the I Gauge version cost 250 Reichsmark, about 1/10 of a contemporary German compact car. Exclusive and admired, post-WWII, it became a collector's favorite. Today, finding one in good condition is challenging, with values soaring to over 20,000 Euro at auctions.
